Deventer top artefacts
De Waag is a stage for displaying Deventer’s extensive collection of artefacts. On the first floor, you will find masterworks of a 17th-century painting by Bartholomeus Breenbergh, Gerard ter Borch II and Hendrik ter Brugghen. There are also works from later periods by Cornelis Springer and the master forger Han van Meegeren, who was born in Deventer.
From 23 March, a viewing cabinet by the Surinamese artist Gerrit Schouten will be on display in our masterworks gallery. The viewing cabinet is a rediscovered masterpiece of the museum that provides a special insight into the slavery and colonial past of Deventer.
