De Waag on the Brink

Abraham Beerstraten (1643 - ?, after 1666)

The Beerstraaten family of painters is somewhat less well known within the palette of Dutch painters. Within the family were several painters and, unfortunately, it is not always easy to determine who painted which work. Many conflicting claims have been made about these Amsterdam painters over the centuries: Abraham junior (1643-1666) and Anthonie (1645-1664) were preceded by their father Jan Abraham (1622-1666). Abraham junior is considered the most talented of these painters. Museum de Waag has works by both Anthonie and Abraham junior in its collection.
