Our story

A visit to Museum De Waag is always a meaningful and unforgettable experience.

In 1913, Deventer's weigh house became vacant due to a move by the Girls' High School. This provided the wonderful opportunity to establish a municipal museum. On 22 April 1913, the municipality agreed to loan the weighing house. That same year, Vereniging de Waag was founded, which from then on was in charge of running the museum and acquiring collection. On 16 June 1915, Museum De Waag was opened to the general public for the first time.

Museum De Waag organises inspiring exhibitions on Deventer's city history throughout the year. Exhibitions are organised with the Deventer collection as a starting point. During exhibitions, the collection is expanded with loans and other additions.

Museum De Waag is part of heritage organisation Deventer Verhaal.
