By train
Main exit of Deventer Central Station. Cross the footbridge and walk straight ahead into Keizerstraat. At the end of the street, turn left onto the Brink towards the free-standing weighing house that houses Museum De Waag.

By car
From the A1 motorway, follow the signs towards the city centre. Go via Deventerweg, Zutphenseweg and Pothoofd to the Brink. You will then enter the city centre along the river IJssel. From here, it is about 150 metres' walk to Museum De Waag.

The exhibition rooms and toilet areas are accessible by lift. Due to the limited space in the museum, the use of mobility scooters is not possible. A loaner wheelchair is available. Please reserve it in advance by telephone. Folding stools are also available to borrow. There is no need to reserve these.

Registered assistance dogs are welcome. Youth up to 14 years old have access only when accompanied by an adult.

Besides a lift and a toilet for disabled persons, the museum has a shop with fun Deventer accessories and books. There is also a cloakroom with lockers where you can store your coat and valuables.

There is no museum café. NB: bringing your own food and drinks is not allowed. The Weighing House is on the Brink. On the Brink, you will find a catering square with lots of different cafes and restaurants.

Museum De Waag features a museum shop. In our shop, in addition to the original counterfeiters cauldron, you will find all kinds of fun Deventer accessories and books. You don't need an admission ticket to take a look around our shop.

Use of cloakroom lockers, toilets and audio tour is included in the entrance fee. Only activities for which you need to book (e.g. a lecture or private tour) are subject to additional charges. This will then be clearly communicated in advance.

Museum De Waag is Deventer's historical museum. From the oldest scales building in the Netherlands, we tell you about the urban history of the Hanseatic city of Deventer.

In the museum, you will learn all about the city's genesis, the Hanseatic period with its trade and markets and the industries of silversmiths and the famous bakers.

But you will also discover a rich collection of art from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, including works by Gerard ter Borch II and Hendrick ter Brugghen. From later times, we present works by Cornelis Springer and the Deventer-born master forger Han van Meegeren.

With each exhibition, we offer a free audio tour with in-depth information about the exhibition. Besides presentations on the history of Hanseatic city Deventer, the weighing building, the oldest in the Netherlands, is a feast for the eyes. Check out the actual agenda what there is to see and do.

Bags smaller than A4 size are allowed into the museum provided they are carried on the front of the body. Large backpacks and umbrellas are not allowed in the museum.

During holidays, modified opening hours apply at Museum De Waag.

On the following public holidays, the museum is open from 11am to 5pm: Liberation Day, Easter Monday, Ascension Day, Whit Monday and Christmas Day.

The museum is closed on Easter Sunday, King's Day, Whit Sunday, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. On 5, 24 and 31 December, the museum closes at 16:00.
