The Cellar of De Waag

Dynamic setup

The oldest weighing house in the Netherlands is located in Deventer! Venture into the cellar excavated in 1528. De Waag was where weighing and calibrating for the sake of fair trade took place. View the builders' marks in our vaulted cellar, carved into the pillars.

In the cellar, we will present you with a bird's eye view of the history of De Waag, starting from 1528. You will also find numerous archaeological findings. The Provinciaal Depot voor Bodemvondsten A.D. Verlinde has adopted a display case in which several prominent finds from the Overijssel soil are exhibited.

The cellar space is also used for receiving groups and schools. Furthermore, this is where our wardrobe with lockers is located.
