The Cellar of De Waag

Dynamic setup

The oldest weighing house in the Netherlands is in Deventer! Venture into the cellar dug out in 1528. In De Waag, people weighed and calibrated for fair trade. In our vaulted cellar, you can see the builders' marks, carved into the pillars.

In the cellar, we present you (in Dutch) with a bird's-eye view of an exciting period of The Weigh House, starting from 1528. You will also find numerous archaeological finds. The Provincial Depot for Soil Finds A.D. Verlinde has adopted a showcase in which some prominent finds from the Overijssel soil are exhibited.

The cellar area is also used to receive groups and school classes. Furthermore, our cloakroom with lockers is positioned there.
